Privacy Policy

StartupYar ("StartupYar", "we", "us", or "our") is an independently run website at startupyar.com (the "Site") — a directory of tools and apps for startup founders. It is not operated by a registered company. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Site, why we collect it, how we use it, and the choices and rights available to you.

By using the Site, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. Information We Collect

We only collect information that you choose to give us. We do not require account creation or a login to browse the Site.

a) When you subscribe for updates

If you enter your email address into the "Want to be featured?" form shown on Site pages, we collect and store that email address so we can contact you.

b) When you submit a tool ("Get Featured")

If you submit a startup or tool for listing, we collect the information you provide on that form: your startup name, website, email address, and, optionally, a phone number, tagline, description, social media links (Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram), and a logo image you upload. You choose separately whether your email address and phone number are displayed publicly alongside your listing; if you leave those boxes unchecked, we keep them private and use them only to contact you about your submission.

c) Automatically, for security purposes

When you submit the "Get Featured" form, we briefly note the IP address your request came from, solely to enforce a one-submission-per-minute limit that prevents automated spam. This is stored temporarily on our server and is not linked to your name or email, added to any marketing list, or retained beyond what is needed for that spam check.

d) Local device storage

The Site remembers whether you prefer light or dark mode using your browser's local storage. This preference is saved only on your own device, is never transmitted to us, and contains no personal information.

We do not use cookies, and we do not run analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts of our own on the Site.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information described above to:

• Review and, if approved, publish your tool listing in the directory;
• Contact you about your submission or subscription — for example, to confirm approval or ask a follow-up question;
• Display the public parts of an approved listing (name, website, tagline, description, logo, and any social links or contact details you chose to make public) to visitors browsing the Site;
• Prevent spam and abuse of our forms;
• Maintain and improve the Site.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

3. Third-Party Services

The Site loads fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com) and icons from the Font Awesome CDN (cdnjs.cloudflare.com). Loading these resources causes your browser to make a direct request to those providers, which may receive your IP address and browser information as a normal part of serving that file. We do not control, and are not responsible for, those providers' own data practices; we recommend reviewing Google's and Cloudflare's privacy policies if you have concerns.

Our underlying hosting and database infrastructure providers may process data on our behalf solely to operate the Site, and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

4. Data Retention

We keep subscriber email addresses and tool submissions for as long as needed to operate the directory and respond to you, or until you ask us to delete them. Rate-limiting records used to prevent spam are short-lived and expire automatically within minutes.

5. Data Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect the information you share with us. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you are located, you may have the right to access, correct, download, or request deletion of the personal information we hold about you, and to withdraw any consent you previously gave. We aim to honor these rights for all visitors, regardless of location, including rights available under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), where applicable to you.

To exercise any of these rights — including unsubscribing from emails or removing a submitted listing — contact us using the details in Section 9. We will respond within a reasonable time and may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

7. Children's Privacy

The Site is intended for founders and business users and is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the Site or our practices. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
